Research shows that when parents and families are involved in their child's education, academic performance improves. That's why it's important to strategically engage parents in schools in a variety of ways. Schools can provide parents with resources to help them in many ways; however, it is most important that schools are perceived as welcoming places by parents in their community.

Parent Involvement Best Practices--These "Promising Partnership Practices" from
Virginia Beach City Public Schools were published in the National Network of Partnership Schools annual "Promising Partnership Practices" compilation. This volume highlights "best practices" in parent involvement throughout the country. The following are the 2009-2010 Virginia Beach selectees:
